Real text editing, not a white box
Most free online PDF editors fake it. They draw a white rectangle over the words you wanted to change and print new text on top. It looks fine until you put it on a coloured background, or until somebody selects the text and finds the original wording still sitting underneath.
RetypePDF rewrites the text operators inside the PDF itself. The old words are genuinely gone — not hidden, not covered. The page stays vector text you can search and select, and the file does not balloon in size.

Your file never leaves your device
Editing runs entirely in your browser. The PDF is not uploaded, not stored on a server, and not readable by us — which matters, because the documents people actually need to fix are invoices, contracts, payslips and statements. The only thing our server ever receives is a count of how many documents you processed, so your daily allowance can be tracked.
There is exactly one exception, and you control it: if a result comes out wrong you can send us a problem report. That never happens automatically. Reports carry only a technical summary by default — no text from your document — and including the document itself is a separate box you tick each time.

Is it really free?
Yes. Twenty documents a day are free, with no account and no watermark on the output. Reach that, or the batch allowance, and we ask you for one sentence about how it went — then the rest of the day is unlocked. There is no price, no subscription and no card.
Do you see my documents?
No. Editing runs entirely in your browser and the file is never uploaded. Our server only ever receives a number — how many documents you processed — so your daily allowance can be counted. The one exception is a problem report you choose to send after a test run, where you decide exactly what to include; sending the document is always a separate, unticked choice.
Can I edit any PDF?
Most PDFs produced by software — invoices, statements, forms, reports — yes. Two kinds will not work: scanned documents, which are images with no text to edit, and PDFs using CID/Type0 fonts, which RetypePDF detects and marks as locked rather than corrupting them. You will always be told why a line cannot be edited.
Will the edited text look right?
It reuses the document's own font, so the replacement matches. If a font is subsetted and lacks a character you typed, RetypePDF refuses the edit and names the missing characters instead of printing blank boxes — a failure mode most editors ship silently.
Does the old text stay in the file?
No. RetypePDF rewrites the text operators in the content stream, so the original wording is removed rather than covered. Editors that paint a white box over text leave the original extractable.
Can I change the same line on every page?
Yes. When a line repeats — an address block on each page of a statement, for example — RetypePDF marks it and replaces it everywhere in one edit.
